‘Sport Should Be for Everyone’ – Change our Game Conversation Series

14 Nov 2023

The “Change Our Game” initiative, spearheaded by the Victorian Government, is leading the charge to make sport and active recreation welcoming and inclusive for all women and girls. The 2023 Change Our Game Conversation Series is a step toward this goal, providing a platform for inspiring and influential women who champion equality and drive change in the sports industry.

The overarching vision of the “Change Our Game” initiative is to create an environment in Victoria where there is no better place for women and girls to engage in sports and recreation.

In 2015, the Inquiry into Women and Girls in Sport and Active Recreation outlined nine recommendations to promote female leadership and participation in the sector. These recommendations have been accepted by the Victorian Government and have ignited a collaborative effort among various stakeholders, including the sport and recreation sector, state and local governments, and other partners.

The Conversation Series Two Webinar focuses on the theme, “Sport Should Be for Everyone.” It recognises that while progress has been made in improving gender equality in sport, there is still work to be done. According to a recent survey, four out of five people believe that gender inequality remains a pressing issue in the world of sports.

This series endeavors to address these concerns by bringing together experts and Change Our Game Ambassadors for a panel discussion and Q&A session.

The panel discussion will be facilitated by Sarah Loh, CEO of Softball Australia. It will feature prominent Change Our Game Ambassadors, each of whom has a remarkable background in sports and a strong commitment to promoting inclusivity and equality. The speakers include:

  1. Carol Cooke AM PLY: Carol Cooke is a Paralympian and gold medalist. She is also a keynote speaker and author, and her achievements serve as an inspiration to many in the sporting world.
  2. Elle Steele PLY: Elle Steele is another Paralympian and gold medalist, who has become a motivational speaker. Her journey is a testament to the power of determination and resilience.
  3. Melissa Hale: Melissa Hale is the Head of Deaf Women’s Cricket with Deaf Cricket Australia, and she brings her unique perspective on the importance of inclusivity in sports.
  4. Rita Nehme: Rita Nehme serves as the Social Impact and Sustainability Manager at Richmond Football Club, contributing to making a significant impact on and off the field.

This event provides an opportunity for speakers to share their experiences and perspectives on what is needed to make sports and recreation spaces truly welcoming and inclusive for all women and girls. Their insights are invaluable in breaking down barriers and driving positive change.
