Founder & Managing Director

Steve Pallas is the founder and Managing Director of Sports Community. Sports Community encompasses
a multi-media online support platform for grassroots sports club volunteers, as well as consulting services
for government and peak sporting bodies including the likes Cricket Australia, Netball Victoria, ACT and NT governments and over 80 councils all around Australia.

Previously a successful financial services executive and CEO of the Mornington Peninsula Football
Netball League, Steve’s passion for grassroots sport and his accumulated knowledge from working with
all stakeholders in grassroots sport, since Sports Community’s incorporation in 2012, now places
him as an expert in the field. He is in demand as a speaker, a research partner and as a trusted
resource for the volunteers and stakeholders that drive Australia’s sports clubs.

Co-Founder & Business Manager

Shona is the co-founder of Sports Community, sharing husband Steve’s vision and passion for developing Australia’s best online and in-person resource for sports club volunteers.

Holding a Bachelor of Applied Science in Sports Coaching and Administration, Shona has more than 20 years’ experience in the grassroots sports scene, including three years as the president of a swimming club, and has been a regular guest speaker at international swimming conferences.

Senior Consultant

Jan joins us after completing a highly successful, 13 year tenure as CEO of Sport SA and brings to a wealth of sport leadership experience to Sports Community and our partners.Complementing her exceptional professional career, Jan has extensive board and strategic leadership experience including:

  • Chair and Director of Netball Australia
  • Netball Australia delegate to the International Netball Federation
  • Member of the International Netball Federation Match Officials Advisory Panel
  • Independent Chair of Golf SA (overseeing the merger of SAGA and SALGA)

Digital Producer and Content Manager

A published novelist, author and journalist, Joe is responsible for all our content on the Sports Community website, as well as coordinating our writers and digital producers. Joe also produces the Sports Community podcasts and webinars. With more than 35 years of involvement with grassroots sport as a player, coach and administrator, and a quarter-century of experience in the world of IT, Joe is uniquely positioned to understand both the modern technical demands and the culture of local

Community Partnerships Manager (QLD/NSW/NT)

Involved with sport from an early age, Amanda has a passion for helping people and a knack for organising, making her the perfect fit for her role as Community Partnership Manager in the northern states of Australia.Coming from an elite netball background, Amanda spent more than three years at the Australian Institute of Sport, then as a member of the Australian under-21 squad, before becoming a High-Performance Coach for a number of teams. She was also named Netball Queensland’s Coach of the Year in 2013 and 2015. With training in Human Resources Management, Amanda is a natural people person who will be delighted to help you and your club.

Graphic Designer and Social Media Manager

Evie is our newest addition to the team and brings some much-needed expertise around graphic design and social media management. Evie was awarded her Bachelor of Visual Arts and Design from Australian Catholic University in 2017. As well as her increasingly busy schedule at Sports Community, Evie currently volunteers her skills at Frankston Yacht Club. A fan of all sports, and a keen Richmond Football Club supporter, Evie brings a youthful enthusiasm and energy to our organisation.

Consultant and Presenter

Adelaide-based Peter has a passion for community sport and has the perfect combination of professional business skills and sports management experience. His professional career has spanned 40 years incorporating people leadership and client service roles including as CEO and General Manager in the financial services industry.

Peter has had a major involvement in basketball at all levels, from founding committee member, junior coach (under 10 to under 18 boys and girls), assistant coach of the Adelaide Lightning (WNBL), player with the Adelaide 36ers (NBL) and Chairman of Basketball SA for three years.
