Founder & Managing Director

After a 15-year career as a successful senior financial services executive, Steve’s vision of a one-stop shop for all grassroots sports clubs, where club volunteers and administrators can learn, share and grow, has come to fruition in Sports Community. Previously the CEO of the Mornington Peninsula Nepean Football League, Steve’s passion for working with local grassroots sports clubs led him to develop Sports Community from just an idea into a multimedia information portal with a thriving online community.

SHONA PALLAS
Co-Founder & Business Manager

Shona is the co-founder of Sports Community, sharing husband Steve’s vision and passion for developing Australia’s best online and in-person resource for sports club volunteers.

Holding a Bachelor of Applied Science in Sports Coaching and Administration, Shona has more than 20 years’ experience in the grassroots sports scene, including three years as the president of a swimming club, and has been a regular guest speaker at international swimming conferences.

JOE NOVELLA
Digital Producer and Content Manager

A published novelist, author and journalist, Joe is responsible for all our content on the Sports Community website, as well as coordinating our writers and digital producers. Joe also produces the Sports Community podcasts and webinars. With more than 35 years of involvement with grassroots sport as a player, coach and administrator, and a quarter-century of experience in the world of IT, Joe is uniquely positioned to understand both the modern technical demands and the culture of local sport and its volunteers.

PAMELA IRVINE
Community Partnership Manager

With almost 20 years’ of experience in sales and telemarketing with companies including Tupperware Australia, Marketmetrics, and Wine Growers Direct, Pam is our go-to person for liaising and forging partnerships with community, grassroots and peak sporting bodies.

Involved with junior tennis and soccer clubs for many years, Pam has expert knowledge of the crucial role sports plays in local and regional communities.

AMANDA VANDERWAL
Community Partnerships Manager (QLD/NSW/NT)

Involved with sport from an early age, Amanda has a passion for helping people and a knack for organising, making her the perfect fit for her role as Community Partnership Manager in the northern states of Australia.Coming from an elite netball background, Amanda spent more than three years at the Australian Institute of Sport, then as a member of the Australian under-21 squad, before becoming a High-Performance Coach for a number of teams. She was also named Netball Queensland’s Coach of the Year in 2013 and 2015. With training in Human Resources Management, Amanda is a natural people person who will be delighted to help you and your club.

JENNIFER ROSE
Content Writer

Jennifer brings a diverse range of skills to Sports Community.  She has a background in performance and writing as well as in management in the learn to swim industry.  She now owns a performing arts school for children with a focus on building confidence.

Involved in swimming and netball for most of her life she believes passionately in the value of community sport.  Jennifer enjoys working with clubs to find the easiest and best ways to help their clubs succeed and creating engaging content for clubs and volunteers.

MEAGHAN DENSLEY
Consultant and Presenter

Meaghan comes to Sports Community with a strong sports background, becoming the first female – and the youngest ever – Commodore of a yacht club in Australia when she took the helm of the Frankston Yacht Club. Prior to that history-making achievement, Meaghan was General Manager of Cheltenham Golf Club after spending time at Blairgowrie Yacht Club as their Training Manager.

Meaghan presents our webinars and consults with grassroots clubs, as well as councils and peak sporting bodies about how best to maintain successful and sustainable organisations.

PETER SEXTON
Consultant and Presenter

Adelaide-based Peter has a passion for community sport and has the perfect combination of professional business skills and sports management experience. His professional career has spanned 40 years incorporating people leadership and client service roles including as CEO and General Manager in the financial services industry.

Peter has had a major involvement in basketball at all levels, from founding committee member, junior coach (under 10 to under 18 boys and girls), assistant coach of the Adelaide Lightning (WNBL), player with the Adelaide 36ers (NBL) and Chairman of Basketball SA for three years.
