National Ride2Work Day

9 Nov 2021

According to the Department of Health, currently more than half (55%) of adults do not
meet the physical activity guidelines and 2 in 3 (70%) children aged 2 to 17 also do not meet
the guidelines.

The Covid-19 pandemic also had a significant influence on individuals participating in
physical activity, adding extra barriers especially for organised sport. Health concerns and
restrictions including lockdowns, school closures and gym closures forced Australians to
change how, and how often, they are active.

As Victoria comes out of their grueling lockdown, what better way to kickstart their return
to get physically fit and healthy then to celebrate National Ride2Work Day!
National Ride2Work Day is Australia’s largest celebration of commuter riding. The day
celebrates the benefits of riding to work and brings together the communities that support

The main objective of the day is to normalise the idea of riding your bike to work –
establishing a great form of physical activity and at the same time, with our cities filled with
traffic affecting climate change which costs us billions each year, it enforces the idea of
getting people out of cars onto bikes!

National Ride2Work Day takes place in Australia on Wednesday 10 November 2021.
If you are planning on participating in this awesome initiative and day, visit to
register your ride, which helps the Bicycle Network understand where people are
commuting by bike, how far they pedal and also helps identify where better places for bike
travel need to be built!

On 10 November, the team at Bicycle Network will be setting up at four key locations for
riders heading into the city to welcome you back with virtual high-fives and live music. Keep
an eye out for the cyan cheer squad on Wednesday 10 November between 7am and 9am.
The four locations are –
• Harbour Esplanade, Docklands
• Neill Street Reserve, Carlton
• Birrarung Marr
• Normanby Road/Clarendon Street intersection

The City of Melbourne, City of Yarra and City of Maribyrnong have all jumped on board to
shout bike riders a free coffee from a local café, so that everyone has a good excuse to jump
on your bike on Wednesday 10 November.

Visit The Bicycle Network to see the full list of participating cafés. Simply roll up to any of the participating cafes with your bike helmet and mention National Ride2Work Day to claim your free coffee. This offer is valid on November 10 and 11 for the first 50 riders at each location. Limit of one coffee per rider.

We at Sports Community encourage everyone to participate in this awesome day! Now is a
great time to transition from car travel to riding a bike to get to work as many people across
the state move back into the office. Put on your helmet, jump on your bike and pedal your
way to work, stopping for a free coffee on 10 and 11 November! You never know, you may
find that this becomes your new normal way of travelling to and from work, providing many
benefits for both yourself and the environment!
