AFLW Set for a Thrilling Grand Final Showdown

27 Nov 2023

In an electrifying weekend of AFLW action, both preliminary finals delivered nail-biting encounters, setting the stage for what promises to be a sensational Grand Final clash between Brisbane and North Melbourne.

Brisbane Lions secured their spot in the NAB AFLW Grand Final with a hard-fought four-point victory over a spirited Geelong side. Shannon Campbell emerged as the hometown hero, kicking the decisive goal in the final minutes of the game. However, the triumph was not without concern for the Lions, as star forward Dakota Davidson left the field with a potentially serious knee injury in the third quarter.

Despite Geelong’s persistent threat, the Lions showcased their defensive prowess, limiting the Cats’ ability to switch play and apply scoreboard pressure. Young gun Belle Dawes and Orla O’Dwyer played pivotal roles for Brisbane.

While Davidson’s injury added a speed bump to Brisbane’s plans, but the team rallied, securing a phenomenal fifth Grand Final appearance in eight AFLW seasons.

North Melbourne emerged victorious in a heart-stopping clash against Adelaide, securing their maiden NAB AFLW Grand Final berth with a one-point win. The game was a see-sawing affair, with Adelaide’s Anne Hatchard narrowing the margin to one point with a spectacular mark and goal in the final minutes.

Jenna Bruton played a starring role for North Melbourne, particularly in the third quarter, dragging her team back into the contest. Tahlia Randall’s two goals and the defensive efforts of Jasmine Garner, Ash Riddell, and Mia King contributed to the Roos’ triumph.

Adelaide’s Danielle Ponter showcased her class with a hat-trick of goals, momentarily putting her team in the lead. Despite a late surge, Adelaide were unable to take the lead.

North Melbourne’s final term grit was enough to secure a spot in next weekend’s Grand Final at Princes Park.

The AFLW Grand Final is set to be a thrilling encounter. Brisbane, with their rich history of success in the competition, will be eager to add another premiership to their tally. On the other hand, North Melbourne, in their first Grand Final appearance, will be looking to make history with a maiden AFLW title.
