Here at Sports Community, we love to indulge in the stories that build your clubs. From the everyday victory to landmark milestones, every story is a stitch in the fabric that makes up your club.

Today we are rejoicing in the celebrations of Frankston Croquet Club, and their milestone event of their 75th anniversary, which was held earlier this month.

Founded in 1947, Frankston Croquet club dons the title of being one of the oldest clubs in Victoria. Prior to the establishment of their official club premises in 1949, Croquet was played on private lawns while waiting for formal lawns to be constructed by the Council.

From humble beginnings, the Frankston Croquet club evolved into a facility that united people in the community to a sport embedded with rich tradition and roots. By 1988 the club moved to new lawns and clubhouse in Nolan Street and was officially opened on 11th February 1989. Growing from strength to strength, the Croquet community has found great pride in maintaining a strong membership base over its 75-year journey, despite COVID lockdowns.

The club remains a vital part of the local Frankston community, with popularity continuing to boom as younger generation and local schools reach out to receive lessons from the club. By encouraging locals to get involved and use the facility, hosting State interclub pennants, and holding visitor competitions the club has enforced a strong community connection that is admired and respected by Frankston locals.

To celebrate their anniversary and their mountain of achievements across its 75-year lifespan, Frankston Croquet club held a massive event where the State Association, other clubs, and locals attended to honour the club. The festivities included a game of croquet, afternoon tea, and the Mayor ‘running the first hoop’.

Penny Abrahams from the club shared her fondness of her club and its remarkable milestone:

“Croquet is a game that is hundreds
of years old and we have a vibrant community of croquet players at our Frankston club. New members of all ages are very welcome”

We would like to formally congratulate Frankston Croquet Club on this extraordinary achievement, and we know they will continue to grow over many years to come as they become a profound
component of the Frankston sporting community.
