It’s hard to believe Australia’s summer of Cricket is only just getting started. We’ve already seen the Australian Men’s team lift the ODI World Cup followed by a challenging 5 match T20 Series in India and the Australian Women’s Team have faced the West Indies on home soil and celebrated the retirement of superstar Meg Lanning. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

So, let’s catch up with all the news before the season really gets going:

  • The Adelaide Strikers won this years WBBL, completing back to back titles. Adelaide were dominant throughout the home and away matches, winning 11 of their 14 games.
    • The Perth Scorchers Beth Mooney finished as the competition’s highest run scorer (557), followed closely by Sydney Thunder’s Chamari Athapaththu (552), while the Star’s Sophie Day, was the leagues leading wicket taker with 27.
  • The Australian Men’s Cricket team announced their squad for the first test against Pakistan in Perth on December 14th. The selectors have shown faith in the stock standard XI that Australian’s saw plenty of last summer, and have included uncapped speedster Lance Morris in the squad as well.
  • Before taking on the Aussies, Pakistan will play the PMs XI in Canberra from December 6th to December 9th. The PM’s XI features Matt Renshaw, Cameron Bancroft and Marcus Harris, who will all be hoping to impress selectors with the expected retirement of David Warner after the Sydney New Years Test.
  • Cricket Australia have released a new look international kit for this summer of cricket.
  • A new season of documentary series ‘The Test’ will be released on Amazon Prime soon, focusing on the bitter 2023 Ashes series in England.
  • Streaming service Amazon, has completed an agreement with the ICC to broadcast all global tournaments including World Cups outside of Australia. Matches played in Australia will not be affected. It is yet to be confirmed whether any matches will be on-sold and made available free-to-air.
  • The next installment of the Men’s Big Bash League kicks off this Thursday (the 7th), with Brisbane Heat taking on the Melbourne Stars at the Gabba. Both teams will have a stacked batting line up, with international stars Usman Khawaja (Heat), Marnus Labuschagne (Heat), Glenn Maxwell (Stars) and Marcus Stoinis (Stars) all available for the showdown.
