Sporting Schools Funding Applications Open On August 5th!
Australia’s ‘Sporting Schools’ program is a national initiative designed to encourage primary and secondary school students to participate in sports.
Funded by the Australian government and managed by Sport Australia, the program provides schools with resources and funding to offer various sports activities. It aims to enhance students’ physical health, build their confidence, and foster a lifelong love for physical activity.
By connecting schools with local sporting organizations and trained coaches, ‘Sporting Schools’ ensures students have access to quality sports experiences in a fun and safe environment.
The ‘Sporting Schools’ program offers a diverse range of sports to cater to different interests and abilities, including popular choices like basketball, soccer, swimming, athletics, and netball, as well as less mainstream sports such as gymnastics, bowls, and table tennis.
Schools can select from various programs tailored to different age groups and skill levels, including introductory sessions, skill development clinics, and more advanced coaching for enthusiastic students. The program also supports inclusive sports to ensure all students, regardless of physical or intellectual abilities, can participate and enjoy the benefits of being active.
One example of the programs on offer is Rookie Rollers. Rookie Rollers is Bowls Australia’s initiative within the ‘Sporting Schools’ program, designed to introduce young students to the sport of lawn bowls in a fun and engaging way.
This program makes lawn bowls accessible and enjoyable for children, using modified equipment and simplified rules to suit younger players. It focuses on developing fundamental movement skills, teamwork, and coordination.
Through Rookie Rollers, students experience a unique sport that emphasizes precision and strategy, often in a non-competitive, supportive environment. The program also encourages respect, fair play, and social interaction, making it an excellent way for students to stay active and build new friendships.
In the ‘Sporting Schools’ program, schools receive funding to cover the costs of delivering sports programs, including coaching fees, equipment, and facility hire. Schools apply for funding through the program’s online portal during designated application periods.
The next funding period opens on August 5th, and closes on August 23rd. During this time, schools can apply for funding from the Sporting Schools website.
