The road to Paris 2024 is becoming ever clearer, and even more competitive as the games draw closer, and athletes around the world compete for their ticket to the event.
In August, the Australian Women’s Water Polo team, the Ord Minnet Stingers, claimed their spot in the Paris Olympics after defeating New Zealand in the Oceania Qualifiers. The Aussies were dominant against the Kiwis, winning the first two matches of the ‘best of three’ series 17-3 and 15-5.
They’ll be joined in Paris by a large contingent of Australian athletes, including the Australian Men’s Basketball Team, who’ve also qualified for the event, and both the women’s and men’s field hockey sides, the Hockeyroos and the Kookaburras. Both sides won Gold Medals at the 2023 Oceania Cup to secure their tickets to Paris.
The Australian Men’s Water Polo Team, the Ord Minnet Sharks, will need to perform well at the World Aquatic Championships this February in Doha to secure their spot on the world stage.
In 2021, Australia sent 486 Athletes to the Tokyo Olympics, the second largest Olympic contingent ever (second only to Sydney 2000), and already more than 240 Australian Athletes have confirmed their place at the 2024 Olympics.
