Fish Creek FNC Begin the Long Road to Rebuilding

24 Nov 2023
The Fish Creek Football-Netball Club has taken its first steps in the challenging task of rebuilding its community hub following an arson attack. The club has successfully raised over $100,000 and is now using the Australian Sports Foundation Website in a further push for funding.

The Australian Sports Foundation provides a virtual platform for crowdfunding initiatives, where both individuals and organisations can contribute to charitable causes, supporting community clubs or individual athletes. Among the projects featured on the Australian Sports Foundation website are those aiding athletes representing Australia requiring funding for international tours, clubs seeking assistance for facility upgrades and organisations such as Fish Creek FNC, striving to recover from a significant setback.

At the heart of the Gippsland community, the Football-Netball Clubrooms fell victim to a suspicious blaze in early November. This not only obliterated the club’s physical infrastructure but also erased more than a century’s worth of historical awards and memorabilia.

The Fish Creek FNC rooms served as the central hub of this small community. They were the go-to venue for various events, playing host to premiership celebrations, birthday parties, weddings, and even funerals. The loss of this space left a void in the community’s social fabric.

Despite the daunting road ahead, Fish Creek FNC remains steadfast in its commitment to rebuilding. The outpouring of support from the community, coupled with ongoing fundraising, signifies a collective determination to see the club rise from the ashes. The journey to reconstruct the Fish Creek FNC is not merely a restoration of bricks and mortar; it is a testament to the resilience of community spirit, proving that even in the face of adversity, a united community can rebuild and emerge stronger than ever.
