Working with Children Registration Tasmania

Working with Children Registration in Tasmania comes under Registration to Work with Vulnerable People Act 2013.

The aim is to keep our children as safe as possible by reducing the incidence of sexual, physical, psychological, emotional harm or neglect of children in Tasmania.

Working with vulnerable children – general information

The Department of Justice has created an easy to use website that provides important information for organisations and clubs who provide activities for children and vulnerable people. The Department of Justice information for WWCC can be accessed here

What does it mean for sports clubs?
If you are a sports club that offers junior activities, or if you do paid work or volunteer in junior or disability sports in Tasmania, the department of Justice have identified how working with vulnerable children will relate to you or your sports clubs. Head to their webpage to find out more.

Who needs a working with children registration?

If you work or volunteer with children you might need to apply for this new registration.

The new law requires registration for some important roles within child related organisations, but importantly allows organisations to adjust the screening requirements to suit their particular organisation.

There are a number of exemptions under the new law regarding situations where people engaged in regulated activities need not apply.

If you are a volunteer or you are working in a child-related role, you will be phased in to registration between now and mid 2017.
